I tried earlier this spring to no till a few weeks after I had worked the ground. It was less than desirable so I quit and got the neighbors crust buster with coulters.
That isnt an option now but on the rods where the spring is that move the disk opener up and down. It looks as if I moved them to top hole it would apply more pressure down if the rod is longer. ![]() We would need peas down at least 1 12 inches and a conventional drill would never do it because just not enough spring tension there on a double disk opener I believe. It would work a lot better with a 750 type drill where you can get enough down pressure to get the seed in the ground and covered with soil. The single disk opener would leave little disturbance to the ground. The 8300 and similar drills are for prepared seed beds only. If you do manage to put much more force down on the openers the next thing that happens is the end wheels come off of the ground and then the seed meters stop. Put more pressure on spring loaded rods and they will bend AS said above 8300 JD and IH drills of same time frame notno-till drills. An old model B will run circles around it in anything with the slightest amount of trash. ![]() I always set the disks behind the tractor tires for more down pressure.
